Makerspace Development
Berea Makerspace
My involvement with the Berea Makerspace began early 2019. We officially opened that summer, but to a basically empty building. Even so, we gained widespread community support. I’ve focused my time on tool acquisition, grant writing, and building out the woodshop. We’ve constructed walls, installed new electricity, air, and dust collection, led classes and orientations.
2023
Our attempts to get into a bigger building over 2022 had failed, but we continued to turn heads with the Purpose in Action project, our 2023 Traditional Craft program, multiple grants obtained with groups like the Kentucky Colonels and Parker-Hannifin, as well as work with the College and Berea Pollinator Garden on a new Chimney Swift nest at the Pinnacles.
Crochetmas 2022, Eastern Kentucky
On our second year of the Crochetmas Project, we built multiple mini trees, which were dressed in the same style of crochet squares as last year, and distributed throughout Eastern Kentucky. Fundraising done during this period allowed our community to donate over $3500 in flood relief.
2022
This year had us hosting even more workshops - Hank Gevedon did a year-long workshop on blacksmithing and toolmaking, and several teachers participated in our Traditional Craft workshops funded by a grant from Berea College. We upped our outreach work through several events in Berea, as well as working with Berea Kids Eat on multiple projects.
Crochetmas 2021, BereA
We helped build the tree for this year’s Crochetmas Tree Project - twelve feet of community organized crocheting and erecting of our very own christmas tree.

Kre8now Makerspace
I started volunteering with Kre8now since 2014, when it was just a mostly empty warehouse on Manchester Street I was picking up some 3d prints at. It has grown, shifted and evolved so much since then, and I am proud to be a part of its mission of Maker outreach, education and engagement. I've helped with construction, promotion, classes, and even made a thing or two along the way.
My time at Kre8now ended in late 2022 - the business closed nine months later. regardless of how it ended, I’m thankful of my experience there and what it has led to with the Berea Makerspace, the Lexington Tool Library, and other community focused projects.
